The Perfect Holiday Drink

HOLIDAY WASSEL

As we slowly head into those winter months, we bustle about with Holiday plans and it brings me back to the days when we would have Christmas at my great grandma’s off grid cabin in Idaho. We would sled down the mountain side in old tire tubes, while the adults warmed up by a canned fire. When it was time to go inside, the cabin would smell like my grandma’s fresh fry bread and a warm meal on the woodfire stove. We’d gather on the wooden floor next to the wood stove and listen to my great grandpa play banjo by oil lantern while the stove crackled and glowed behind us.

When we moved to Minnesota my mom wanted to bring those simple holiday traditions of the cabin to our new home. We would go ice skating on the outdoor rinks, and then cozy up at home with some holiday wassel. The house would smell like cranberry, cloves and cinnamon, it was a smell that would make your mouth water. Needless today this is a staple in my own home now during the holiday, it’s sweet and tasted like the holidays in a cup to me. Here’s the recipe, if you make this, I truly hope you enjoy it and that you think of your favorite holiday memory while you sip this warm cup of holiday wassel!
